ICD-10 CDI Coder Readiness Testing

The Golden Data Set can be used as a reference for coder training and internal coder readiness testing as well as to identify necessary CDI changes in charting to determine gaps for coding in ICD-10. Self-generated test data cannot measure coding accuracy or documentation quality, as any errors present will continue to be made; thus, independence is the key to cost-effective CDI and Coder Readiness Testing. Use of our Golden Data Set is estimated to provide an added value of $100,000 to organizations' CDI efforts.

Dual coded medical records can be helpful in CDI in the following ways:

  1. Currently-produced medical records will be dual coded along with documentation and coding improvement suggestions. This will help the staff understand the problems with their documentation/coding practices and also learn how to document and code correctly.
  2. Provider’s ICD-10 readiness can be assessed based on their documentation/coding practices.
  3. Provider’s staff can be trained in documentation and coding for medical records.
